Concrete Stain Uses for all Parts of the Home

There are undoubtedly many different uses for concrete stain. I was talking to my friend the other day on the many different uses such a specific could have. Well, we found out that concrete stain actually has a really big amount of uses not just for floors but for many other things as well.

I decided that I would create a nice article for all you guys so you can see exactly what me and my friend were talking about. I was so thrilled in finding out the endless possibilities when it comes to concrete stain, and I’m sure you will too. So, without further waiting here are my results.

What you can use Concrete Stain for

So we compiled the list and here is the 3 best things concrete stain is for. I was astounded by how many of this stuff is so obvious yet not so obvious. I would call it something along the lines as the truth was in front of you the whole time. Well, something along the lines as that. You can’t blame me for making something as mundane as concrete into something hopefully remotely interested.

Flooring

Yes, I know what an obvious use. Well, of course it is, concrete stain is almost always used exclusively for flooring. Are you nuts or something? I bet you might have been excited to find something you may have never heard of. Too bad.

Concrete stain has been one of the greatest accompaniments to flooring since the dawn of concrete. And I’m guessing the dawn of staining as well. It seems they both collided to make one of the greatest flooring inventions known to man. I am currently looking at my marvelous Porsche as it lays on top of my golden stained concrete in my garage. Yes, it is beautiful and yes It is a grand car – life is good.

Wall Decorations

Wall StainingSo just because it says apply to the floor do you think it means that it is useful for nothing else? My dear god are you wrong. You can actually go stop staining the floor and bring the brush to the wall. In effect you get a concrete stained floor – except it’s on the wall! I know it is an extremely revolutionary kind of thing, but trust me it is extremely worth it my friend.

If you are going to stain just the floors then why not stain the walls as well? It would be silly to leave the concrete stain just half full like that after using it all for the floor. Don’t you just hate having all of the stain left after finishing a project? Well put that stuff to good use my friend!

Ceiling Tainting

CeilingWe realized that ceiling tainting has gone out of fashion lately. I absolutely don’t understand why. In fact once you have stained the floors and the wall you will probably find out that you are left with a tiny little bit of concrete stain left in the tin. Well, do yourself a favor and firstly get an old towel which may or may not have some fecal matter on it. Then, do kindly dip the towel into the concrete stain. Make sure it is nicely soaked up and juicy my friend. Then swing the towel to the ceiling. It will look as beautiful as the toilet paper after its first wipe.

These new uses for concrete stain are truly amazing and revolutionary. I highly recommend this for anyone, we need more beautiful rooms that are stained nicely my friends!

Concrete stains are an absolutely great way to add more definition to the base of a floor. However, not everyone has correctly utilized what colors are available for concrete stain, or what colors will suit what surroundings – the simple application of adding color to crete has also been confused, surprisingly, by your average home renovator and home planner.

With that being said, I’ll briefly give you guys the best advice you need when it comes to how to color your concrete, whether it be at work, at home or even in a public venture. Most of this information was given to me by my good friend Ace Adam and his guide on concrete color.

Where To Begin With Concrete Stain Colors

The first thing you want to do is to check the colors you already have available for your choosing. Stain colors often look best as solid colors without any combination mixture of colors – by that I mean any interior decor will look much better with a nice, dynamic snow white than having a rainbow. Need I say more? The colors available to you are basically all the colors you see on your average color chart, looking at the chart you can basically understand that basically every color you ever need is available for you. All you really need to do is take a trip to your local home renovation/maintenance shop or supplier and request the color that you need. As a good rule of thumb, for any decorative endeavors, such as one involving concrete stain colors – a tan coat stain is always a nice way to convey a warm, yet simple feel.

Taking things to the next level

For the pro’s however going for behr concrete stain like feel can also be greatly beneficial for the outcome you’re trying to achieve. Also, I’d like to advise that you really need to keep in mind what you want, and not necessarily compromise for availability of products, the extra mile really makes a difference. I found lots of great info on taking the project ideas to whole another level here.

Concrete Stain ColorsA good point to remember is that concrete stain color may differ to the actual color that you have chosen to stain. For example, that milky brown may look darker or lighter than what you’ve expected. So, It’s best to try the stains on sample concrete before applying it onto your project – words from a veteran. However, if you’re getting a contractor to do this for you, he’ll probably already realize this and choose the correct color according to what you need.

My personal recommendations when it comes to concrete stains

I’d also like to recommend using such brands as h&c concrete services when going to put your plan into action. Reliable, and trusted companies are always the best way to go about these sorts of things. You don’t want to take shortcuts in your interior decor, decorative projects – right? Either way, the cost of concrete staining is pretty low anyway.

Moving into a new pad and transforming house floors into more attractive ones can be stressful at times but thanks to Quikrete concrete stain, the task is much easier. My interior designer advised me to purchase colored concrete stains from stores instead of wasting my time trying to create a homemade mix.

The best thing about doing such thing is that there are several stain colors available in the market today. Some of the options that I can apply to ensure that my flooring’s newlook will be unforgettable are shades of blue such as aqua stone and tranquil pool as well as shades of red like autumn tint and saron. I prefer Quikrete much more than other brands.

Quikrete Color Guide

Before choosing among the several Quikrete semi transparent concrete stain colors that are currently available, the store’s sales person decided to give me information about different specifications of concrete stain colors for sale.

Water-Based Concrete Stain

This classification of concrete stain is described as solid and thick when appearance is involved. There are several colors of this concrete that are available in the market and the good thing about a water-based concrete color is that it can be combined with other preferred colors to come up with personalized color for the flooring. I was told that this concrete stain can be used for both indoor and outdoor concrete floors.

Acid Concrete Stain

This type of concrete stain has been made available in eight different colors. These colors are shades of three solid colors such as blue green, black and brown. The best thing about an acid concrete stain is that it can be applied to both new and old concretes as well as it is allowed for indoor and outdoor settings.

I actually like Quikrete concrete stain more than Behr unlike my friend at http://aceadam.com/

Integral Colors

This final specification of concrete stain colors is available in earth-tone colors as well as my favorite pastel shades. This can also be utilized both indoors and outdoors. What I found amazing with this type of concrete stain is that I can buy the product in different forms such as liquid, powdered and granular.

Application Of Quikrete Semi Transparent Concrete Stain

Concrete_Stain_For_Exterior_And_Interior_FloorsAfter making a decision on which among the specifications from the concrete stain color guide, the next step that I took was to learn how to apply a concrete stain on the floor. Here are the step-by-step procedure on a do it yourself concrete stain color application.

Step 1. I first cleaned the concrete floor by using a recommended cleanser to remove grease and oil stains. I made sure that I cleaned and rinsed the concrete floors well and then I let it dry. While waiting for the concrete to dry, I covered the surfaces that will not be stained with newspapers as protection.

Step 2. When the concrete floor was completely dry, I prepared my concrete stain from Quikrete by pouring the contents of the can into a paint pan. Then I started applying the concrete stain into the floor using a paint roller.

Step 3. Then I waited for twenty-four hours before applying the sealant for protection. Finally, I waited for another day until the seal was dry. This time the floor can be walked on or used again.

The moment I got tired of endless shopping for specific tiles and carpets for my house, I decided to give concrete stain colors a shot. The thing that I liked most about this latest style of decorating concrete parts such as the driveway or the floors is the presence of several designs that I can use. As said by the friend who recommended this new look for my place, the choices in design are dependent on how broad my imagination is.

Most Asked Questions About Acid Stain Concrete Colors

The first time that someone mentioned concrete acid stain colors to me, several questions crossed my mind. Here are four frequently asked questions that has helped me in making a decision on whether to have colored stains applied or not.

Question 1. Is There A Limit To The Total Number Of Colors That I Am Allowed To Use?

Before I even finished asking this question, my friend already said no. The friend mentioned that the number one goal of this method is to move away from the usual gray concrete. This means that I can use any shade of solid color or neon color. I can choose from the popular and safe colors such as black, blue and red to the rarely used colors like yellow, orange, pink and even apple green, my favorite color.

There is no limitation to the colors or the mixture of colors that I want to make use of. All that I need to ensure is for the chosen colors to compliment my pad’s theme.

Question 2. Can All Types Of Concretes Be Stained?

Technically, acid stain concrete colors can be applied to almost every type of concrete as long as it has been prepared properly. In case that the concrete is already sealed or glued with a top coating, I was told that the coating will have to be shredded to apply my chosen acid stain concrete color.

A water test was recommended when I told my friend that I wasn’t sure if the concrete is already or not yet sealed. Application of stain colors can be performed right away if the water is swiftly absorbed by the concrete. But if the opposite happens, I will need to perform extra work to prepare the concrete for the application.

Question 3. How Is Behr Concrete Stain Colors Usually Applied?

Another important question that I really have to ask is how to apply the stain concrete. There are two methods of stain concrete application that I was informed of. The first is by spraying and the second one is by painting. If you’re interested in other application techniques, I recommend this resource.

Question 4. How Long Does The Color Last?

Commercial_Shop_Napa_In_Roanoke_025.51105632The stain colors set either in outdoor or indoor floors can last for a very long time. How is this possible? The stain that is often used is comprised of an acid called hydrochloric that when muddled up with concrete generates a chemical reaction with calcium hydroxide. This is the main reason why the color does not wear off easily. In short, this can be considered a permanent job.

My best friend for sixteen years came to rescue me and my boring concrete floors and advised me to let the floors undergo a behr concrete stain transformation. The mere fact that it was something that I was not familiar with heightened my curiosity.

Concrete Paint Products

When I started to browse my go-to for things new to me which is simply the internet for behr semi transparent concrete stain, the first advice that a person who already had his house floors done gave me is the products that I can use to paint my boring and gray concrete floors.

There are three specific concrete paint products that were recommended in behr concrete stain reviews.

Product 1. Sealer

First on the list are tinted sealers. These are on top of the list mainly because of the two purposes it tenders for the concrete transformation method. I found out that a sealer can be used to add more effect on the concrete colors. It can also be used to correct and enhance the colors of previously-stained concrete.

Product 2. Acrylic Stains

Acrylic stains are usually produced by mixing polymers and acrylic pigments. These two components are the main reason why concrete floors can pull off permanent colors. I was informed that suppliers of this type of paint have made acrylic stains available in different colors such as black, white, red and blue.

Product 3. Dyes

I was asked to choose between two types of concrete dyes that I can use for my concrete floor renovation project. The first choice is a water-based dye which is perfect since I prefer my floor to have marbling effects. The second option is a solvent-based dye which basically aims for color uniformity.

Before I made a final decision on which type of concrete paint and color to use for my project, I first consulted with the stain color chart to see if I was making the right color choices. Then I headed out the nearest home improvement store and bought the paint that I prefer the most.

How To Apply Concrete Stain

AcidStainDualScore1After gathering the needed materials, I decided that I want to try the do it yourself method of applying concrete stain. Because of this, I settled on asking a professional regarding the step-by-step procedure of applying behr semi transparent concrete stain colors to my overly uninteresting floor.

Here are the four steps that I learned from both reviews and tutorials on how to stain concrete patio.

Step 1. Surface Preparation

The question is how to prepare the surface that will be stained and the one that will not be stained. I made sure that the area that will be stained is smooth by removing debris such as stones and leaves. On the other hand, I covered the areas that will not be stained with old newspapers.

Step 2. First Coating Application

I used a brush to apply the concrete stain into the surface. The best friend also advised me to have a pattern when concrete staining for better results.

Step 3. Second Coating Application

I preferred for a darker shade of the paint so I exerted extra effort to apply a second coating to the surface.

Step 4. Concrete Sealing

And finally, I applied a sealant using a spray.

The first time I asked about how to stain concrete patio, my partner became really excited. The wife honestly believed that I was planning to transform our boring and gray concrete patio to a more colorful and lively one.

Truth is I just wanted to know if she knows the step-by-step procedure to successfully perform the task. And since the wife was already looking forward to the new look of our patio, I decided to seek do it yourself steps in concrete staining our patio so that she will not be disappointed.

I contacted several people to inquire about how to stain a concrete patio on my own. There are more than a few friends who offered techniques for my endeavor. My best bud was kind enough to help me with this task saying that he has just finished painting their patio.

The Six Simple Steps On How To Acid Stain Concrete Patio

Now, I am sharing the step-by-step procedure on how to do this simple procedure by yourself. There are six steps that I religiously followed to ensure that I was doing the right things.

Step 1. Empty The Patio

The first thing that I did was to get rid of all the things in the patio. I removed the outdoor furniture as well as the books and pillows that are usually used by my wife whenever she wants to relax. The supportive wife also offered to help in covering the surrounding areas that will not be stained. She used newspapers to cover the plants to ensure protection from the stain.

Step 2. Fix Fractures

The next thing that my bud and I did was to check the whole exterior. I found out that some parts of the patio have developed cracks. So during this time I repaired the cracks using a concrete repair kit. The kit helped a lot because it has a manual that basically teaches how to properly fix the concrete with cracks. I forgotten so much about this step until I recently read about in here.

Step 3. Clean The Patio

After repairing the cracks, the following action is to clean our patio with a concrete cleaner. A neighbor advised me to get a cleaner with TSP or tri-sodium phosphate. This component basically helps to get rid of oil and grease in the concrete. I used a brush to scrub the stains off the concrete.

Step 4. Prepare Acid-Based Spray

While I was waiting for the patio to be completely dry, I opted to prepare the paint that I will be using. I choose to use a sprayer that is recommended for acid uses and with a circular tip for the job.

Step 5. Spray On The Concrete

When the concrete was completely dried, I sprayed the concrete stain from left to right. My bud on the other brushed the stain to even and smoother it out on the concrete. And finally, I put a sealant and waited for the concrete stain to dry.

Step 6. Load The Patio

Acid stained (14)After the patio was dried out, I returned the furniture on their proper places in the patio.

Rust oleum concrete stain was introduced to me by a study buddy from way back in college. This friend of mine has always been fascinated by the many changes that one can do to transform a naturally-looking house to an eye-catching one. So, I wasn’t surprised when he mentioned how boring my gray garage floor looked and advised me to consider minor renovations.

The Features Of Rustoleum Stain

Let me admit to the fact that I have never heard of this product that I chose to consult a professional as well as some online reviews to familiarize myself with it. According to what I’ve read, this product has a semi-gloss finish that provides not only an attractive but also a protective surface.

The good thing about this product is that when I bought one, it came with a stain kit. This kit is comprised with both instructional manual and video as well as needed materials for concrete staining such as paint, stirring stick and chips for decorating purposes. Oleum also comes with some great history as well!

Preparing the Concrete Stain

During my consultation with a professional and with the help of the video and the manual, I was able to learn how to prepare the garage area where I will be applying the concrete stain on. What I did was to carefully clean the area ensuring that there are no grease or oil stains present. I had to wait until the flooring was completely dry before I started application of the concrete stain.

Application Of The Concrete Stain For The Floor’s New Look

Since I was on a budget, I decided to go for the do it yourself method of applying concrete stain. Here is the step-by-step procedure on how to apply concrete stain into a boring garage floor space.

The first step that I performed is to mix the concrete stain using a paint mixer for around three minutes. I let the mixture sit for thirty minutes and the mixed it again while scraping both the sides and bottom of the container.

The second step that I have done is to apply the mixture to the garage’s natural floor using a brush and making sure to even it out with a paint roller.

The final step that I did was that I patiently waited for at least four hours for the floor to be completely dry. I was told to wait for another twelve hours before bringing back the things that I removed from the area. This time the floor will be ready for regular use. Ruse Oleum was said to be better for sealing than its other applications, however.

Protection For The Concrete Stained Floor

022.32894419My friend also mentioned about some ways to protect my newly concrete stained floor from hazards. According to him, concrete sealers should be used because concrete floors are vulnerable to almost all forms of staining and floor damages such as erosion. So, I settled on applying sealant to the floor not only to enhance the overall appearance of my flooring by making it more attractive but also to provide protection.
